Are You There, Blog? It’s Me, Patrick.

Yeah. I am writing a blog. Who’s reading it? No idea.

You will see nothing incendiary here.

Aren’t you tired of incendiary yet? Aren’t you tired of reading things to rile you up? Wouldn’t you rather read to be informed rather than incensed?

What I’ll inform you of, I’m not sure yet. I will not incense you. This is an incense-free place.

It’s a place where I can recite the words to “Badlands.” Not the Terrence Malick film, the Springsteen song.

“Honey, I want the heart. I want the soul. I want control right now.”

Sorry to call you “honey.” I know I haven’t earned terms of endearment, but if you’ve read thus far, you’ve certainly endeared yourself to me. Still, I wasn’t calling you “honey”. That was Bruce.

I will never spread disinformation. I have zero tolerance for that here. It seems that the world is full of darkness and anger. Or, as Elvis Costello (or Nick Lowe) asks, As I walk through this wicked world, searching for light in the darkness of insanity.”

Like Confucius or some other wise poet once said, “It’s better to light one small candle than curse the darkness.”

This is where I light that candle. Like I used to sing in Vacation Bible School as a child, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.

I want a better world. I want my kids to have a better life than I’ve had, which is pretty good. Life can improve. The world can improve. I have experienced more sunshine than darkness. Not just because of my geographic distance to the North or South Poles. There is more good in this world than evil. Every day we wake up is proof of that.

I write this for the “ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside, that it ain’t no sin to be glad you’re alive.

If you feel the same, check this page regularly and I will keep writing for you.
